September 16, 2002 New Heavy Truck Signal® Mirror Warns of Hopper or Bed Up to Assist Driver |
| Sheboygan, WI -- Muth Mirror Systems is introducing a Driver Warning Signal® mirror for dump, concrete and other heavy trucks with liftable hoppers or beds. This new mirror features a signal that alerts the driver the hopper or bed is still in the raised position. While traditional Signal® mirrors have a red flashing chevron in the mirror glass and are safety features that notify surrounding drivers of the turn intentions of a driver, this new Driver Warning Mirror is a safety feature FOR the truck driver. A common expense for construction trucks is repair costs associated with the truck, ready mix plants, buildings, power lines, bridges, etc. when a driver pulls away and forgets to lower the the hopper or bed. Although trucks include a warning light on the dashboard, this light is frequently overlooked. Heavy trucks that already have the standard west coast style mirror mounting bracket can have the driver side mirror replaced with this innovative new Driver Warning Mirror. The signal appears in the lower portion of the glass of the mirror and consists of red LEDs in the shape of a chevron that point up and flash until the hopper or bed is lowered. Kit #220-0142-0 includes the driver's side housing assembly, wire, connectors and installation instructions. Suggested retail price of the kit is $160-170. For trucks with heated mirrors, kit #220-0142-H includes the heater feature. Professional installation of the Driver Warning Signal® mirror is recommended. "MHC-Kenworth of Dallas, Texas presented us with a challenge when they saw our traditional Signal® mirrors and we were able to develop a mirror using the same concepts that solves an expensive repair problem. This particular Signal® mirror is perfect for fleets since many times they have trucks out of service due to repairs from a driver pulling out with the hopper or bed up and it hitting a building or some other structure. Since drivers rely on their side mirrors, this is an ideal location for a warning indicator light," says Kristi Lawrence, Marketing Manager of Muth Mirror Systems.
