October 26, 1999 MultiFunction Module Enhances Signal® Mirror Safety System |
|
Sheboygan, WI -- Muth Mirror Systems is introducing the MultiFunction Module which enhances their Signal Mirror® Safety System. Currently the system uses high intensity lights to change a vehicle's ordinary exterior rearview mirrors into safety features that command attention helping to prevent accidents. When a turn signal is activated, a flashing chevron appears in the corresponding side mirror to alert drivers in the blind spot. The mirrors appear as regular rearview mirrors whether the turn signals are activated or not. When emergency hazard flashers are activated chevrons in both mirrors flash. The MultiFunction Module upgrades the system to also include a braking signal, strobing reverse, fourth door open, and alarm tick alert. The module can be added to an already installed Signal Mirror® Safety System or can be included with a new installation. Each of the features on the module can be activated or left inactive. When the brakes are applied, the braking signal provides a steady on lighted chevron in both rearview mirrors. If a turn signal is being used at the same time as the brakes, a flashing chevron will appear in only the appropriate mirror and the brake signal remains steady on in the other mirror. When a vehicle is in reverse gear, the strobing reverse alert will provide rapidly flashing chevrons in both rearview mirrors. This makes it evident to surrounding drivers and pedestrians that the vehicle is backing up. The fourth door open alert is particularly important for minivans. Children may jump into the roadway from the door behind the driver. The module can be set to flash when that door is open or can be connected so when any door is open, the door open alert appears in the mirrors. Finally, the alarm tick flashes a single rapid chevron signal every five seconds in both rearview mirrors. This feature will work with a vehicle's existing alarm system or can simulate one. The MultiFunction module is designed to be mounted underneath the dashboard or behind the side floor kick plate. Professional installation is recommended.
